Field trips
Previous field trips have included Cardinals games, Top Golf, Brauetigam Orchards, Eckerts Orchards, Excel Bottling Co., ice skating, Six Flags, Botanical gardens, blacksmith shop, Skate City, Meramec Caverns, City Museum, Chocolate Factory, Holocaust Museum, Joy FM Radio Station, Hidden Valley Ski, Fire Department, Lock-and-Dam, StL Family Theatre, Ninja Warrior Challenge, French Colonial Museum, StL Aquarium, Powell Hall, etc.
Some field trips are free, others have a cost. Some require signing up and paying in advance.
Meetings
We hold monthly meetings (more or less) for fellowship, enrichment, and encouragement. Past meetings have included essay contest, round-table discussion, guest speaker, ice-cream social, presentations, tea party, Valentine party, talent show, curriculum sharing, etc.
Meetings are generally on the second Thursday of the month, but may be on other days. They usually begin at 7:00 PM, unless we are having food, then they start at 6:00 PM. We don't hold meetings in the summer.
TLC co-op
Our co-op is TLC (The Limited Co-op). Friday classes run for 10 weeks in the Spring and 10 weeks in the Fall.
Classes in the past have been: history, science, math, art, languages, music lessons, music theory, choir, orchestra, drama, book studies, chess, robotics, Teenpact, Youth on a Mission, cooking, knitting, study hall, nursery, Historical Conquest, Kingdom Fit, Colonial America.
Individual class fees are anywhere from $0 to $100, but the average is around $25.
All teachers are volunteers and are not trained to accommodate children with special needs or disorders.
We have three main areas of our group:
monthly meetings, field trips, and co-op.
We also have other events such as Graduation ceremony, Ultimate Frisbee, English Country Dancing and other opportunities which can be found on the Extras tab.
About Us
Statement of Faith
We believe the Bible to be the infallible Word of God, the supreme and final authority for all faith and life. We believe that there is one God, eternally existent in three persons: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. We believe in the deity of our Lord Jesus Christ, His virgin birth, His sinless life, His miracles, His vicarious and atoning death through His shed blood, His bodily resurrection, His ascension and His imminent bodily return in power and glory. We believe that man was created in the image of God, but fell into sin and is therefore lost and only those who put their faith in the Lord Jesus Christ alone can be saved. We believe that salvation is the gift of God brought to man by grace and received by personal faith in the Lord Jesus Christ, whose substitutionary death on the cross paid the penalty for man's sin. We believe that the ministry of the Holy Spirit is to convict men, indwell, guide, instruct and empower the believer for godly living and service. We believe in the spiritual unity of believers through our common faith in Jesus Christ and that doctrinal differences which may exist should not hinder the unity of Christian Home Educators.
Modesty Guidelines
We realize that this issue can be a very tense topic in the Christian community. We also realize that to ignore the topic or not set a standard would be a disservice to you and mostly to our Lord. With that said, we would like to make a simple statement in regards to modesty with the group and group functions. Please always dress neatly and modestly when on a field trip, attending classes, or in group functions under the SCCCHE name. Men's clothing should be masculine, and the women's clothing should be feminine. Neither should be tight-fitting or revealing. For example, neither adults or children should wear spaghetti straps, clothing that will bare the midriff, have a low-cut neckline, an inappropriate length of skirts and shorts, or so tight as to be without folds.
For girls, swimwear should be one piece with full body coverage and full shoulder strapped. Swim skirts recommended. Swim shirt over a 2-piece bathing suit is permitted.
For boys, swimwear should include swim shirt. For both sexes, regular t-shirts nor regular shorts or skirts are permitted, since most swimming pools don't allow them.
Personal appearance is more important than most of us realize. In the education world, it has been demonstrated repeatedly that the type of dress which students and teachers wear has a dramatic effect upon both behavior and achievement. If dress and appearance are so important in the education world, they are even more important in home education, where standards tend to be more relaxed.
Home education is being critically scrutinized by both the Christian and the secular world. We carry the name of Christ and should do so in all of our conduct. Whether you are a parent, a teacher, or student participating in a group function, all should be done for the glory of God. We are not in any way to cause a brother or sister to stumble. What may be "style" may not be appropriate for a Christian. If a teacher in a particular class situation deems it necessary, it is within their right to privately address a student and their parent of immodesty if it is causing distraction or difficulty in their class. Please respect and learn from what they might have to say as we know this would be done in love.
